We are excited to highlight one of our employees, our maintenance division manager, Elliott Rubin. Learn how he went from mowing lawns to music and back again.
Following a Dream
Elliott is a Cincinnati native who grew up in West Chester. The rare kid who actually loved mowing the lawn, Elliott helped a Lakota High School friend with his mowing business while he was a student.
Another interest led Elliott in a different direction: A music appreciation class at Lakota inspired him to attend a summer program at Berklee College of Music in Boston. “It was very intriguing to me, and I decided to give it a shot,” Elliott says. The summer between his junior and senior year of high school he headed to Boston to attend classes and programs for five weeks. “It was much like being a college student. We stayed in dorms and had a schedule five days a week,” he recalls.
The experience sold Elliott on the school and he was accepted to study guitar and songwriting. He and some good friends started a rock band, developing a name for themselves through the Boston college scene. “We decided to give this thing a real shot and moved to Los Angeles. It didn’t work out in the end but it was all amazing and I had a blast, and it did lead me to the life I have now,” Elliott explains.
Love in LA
While living in Los Angeles in 2005, Elliott worked at the Pasadena Crate & Barrel store where he experienced love at first sight with the store designer and his now wife, Kelli. “The moment my eyes came upon her I was hooked,” says Elliott. Eventually the two landed back in Cincinnati and were married in 2010.
“When I moved back to Cincinnati I went back to work for my high school friend full time,” he explains, “There is something very satisfying to me about this work that really captivated me, and I decided to pursue it as a career. Instant gratification!” He says his favorite thing about landscaping is inspiring others by nurturing their landscapes.
As Seiler’s maintenance division manager, Elliott wears many hats. He is responsible for day-to-day operations management, scheduling work, managing new sales, account management and even a bit of Spanish to English translation. When asked what he likes about working for Seiler’s, Elliott says, “Being able to build and run Seiler’s 360, a brand-new division for a company with a long-standing proven track record.”
Family, Music and More
In 2011 Kelli and Elliott welcomed their son Keahi (Kee-ah-hee) and in 2014 they had a daughter Keala (Kee-ah-la). Elliott says, “Yes, their names are very similar, and we trip over them a lot!” His son loves everything to do with Elliott’s job and he hopes his son will eventually take over where leaves off with landscaping.
In his free time, Elliott still very much enjoys music and is a drummer in Dat Band, a group that covers soul, funk, pop and rock tunes. He loves local sports and lake life, too. “My family has a house in Tennessee on Dale Hollow Lake, and I have been on a boat down there since I was 3 years old. We love getting away for at least four long weekends a summer.”
We are grateful to have Elliott on our team and look forward to growing further with him. Are you ready to make over or maintain your landscape? Elliott will see to it you get the best service. Contact us today to start talking about your landscape project.
